6. Caudry – Town centre
Before the war, German and French had strong trading connection in lacemaking.
Caudry’s international military cemetery has a monument dedicated to the members of the association of German trade representatives who were killed during the First World War. It marks the many links that existed before the war between the German Empire and Caudry as a centre for lacemaking. Paradoxically, requisitions, plundering and the destruction of lace workshops helped to bring about the modernisation of the industry during the 1920s.
