Remains of blockhouse at La Marlière site.
The Marlière blockhouses are reminders of the defence works along the Hindenburg Line.
While they strengthened the line’s rear defences, their proximity to Cambrai gave them a strategic importance. Used as an underground shelter, the main blockhouse was connected by a trench to the farmhouse and its two terraces enabled surveillance and the positioning of machine-guns. It was integrated into an ensemble made up of several defensive structures.
