18. Bantouzelle
Linked to the Hindenburg Line, Bantouzelle has been completely destroyed after the four years of conflict.
After serving as a centre for rest and medical treatment for German soldiers wounded in the Somme, Bantouzelle was incorporated into the Hindenburg Line in the autumn of 1916. Several blockhouses, used for observation purposes and as firing positions, were built in the village. Fighting during the Battle of Cambrai, and then again in September 1918, left the commune totally ins ruins. This key period in the village’s history is the subject of an exhibition in the Mairie.
