21. La Vacquerie
Civils, fleeing from Masnières, were killed on their way through this hamlet.
The hamlet of La Vacquerie on the Hindenburg Line was taken by the tanks of I battalion coming out of Gouzeaucourt on 20th November 1917. While the fighting was raging, civilians evacuating Masnières passed through the village; some of them lost their lives. In the German counter-offensive, La Vacquerie was retaken on 4th December. The hamlet was rebuilt after the war and its church is the work of the architect Pierre Leprince-Ringuet.
