28.The Louverval Memorial

Louverval Memorial is paying tribute to the soldiers, unidentified, who died during the Battle of Cambrai.

The cost in lives of the Battle of Cambrai was appalling: around 100,000 soldiers on one side or another lost their lives by the end of these 20 days of fighting. Cemeteries and memorials serve as reminders of the ferocity of the fighting which took place in this part of the Cambrai sector. The memorial at Louverval honours the memory of the 7048 soldiers whose bodies have never been found; their names are inscribed on the peristyle walls.
