The Battle of Le Cateau : 26th August 1914
First battle in France = For one single day, the most costly of the whole campaign for the British. But that day allowed French to avoid immediate defeat.
Since the very first beginning of WWI, Le Cateau-Cambrésis inhabitants suffered a lot of German occupation.
German, Russian and British are buried in this WW1 military cemetery.
Neuvilly, north from Le Cateau, was used as a defensive position.
